My career journey began when I started working as a counselor 8 years ago after graduating from East Tennessee State University’s counseling masters program. As my counseling career evolved, I knew I needed to learn more about the mind-body connection. My intuition told me there were other modalities of healing that I could utilize to help address psychological AND physical issues. I love working with people who are motivated to improve their quality of life by investing in mental, emotional, and physical health. I am grateful that I have found two career paths that marry so nicely, and allow me to express my creativity and perspective on growth and change. My goal is to provide quality, affordable, transformative, and therapeutic counseling and yoga services.

COUNSELING/LIFE-COACHING

Talk therapy is a beautiful thing. I have been lucky enough to benefit from amazing therapists, and have also witnessed impressive and poignant self discovery and healing in others. I do not ascribe to one specific counseling theory; I embrace a more eclectic framework. The theoretical frameworks I typically use are Acceptance and Commitment, Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, Existential, and my own brand of deep exploration. I believe being in touch with personal values is extremely important, so I will share some of my career values with you to help you understand my counseling philosophy: personal growth, emotional exploration, mindfulness, empathy, honesty, freedom, and humor (just to name a few).  I am open to counseling individuals, couples, and groups, and have had extensive experience in all three scenarios. I work particularly well with young women on issues such as (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, compulsive behavior, transitions into adulthood, etc.

YOGA INSTRUCTION

Yoga has changed my life and I believe it can change yours too! My journey with yoga began after I suffered a spinal injury as a teenager. After my bones healed, my body and mind were still desperate for reprieve from physical and emotional pain. In my twenties my yoga practice was earnest and therapeutic, but sporadic and longing. When the time was right, I attended teacher training at Asheville Yoga Center and found myself increasingly entranced at the healing power of yoga. I value the vast and profound physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits and try to incorporate these values in my teaching. My students would most likely tell you I like to take yoga classes and workshops into much deeper realms...beyond just physical exercise.  I truly believe that anyone can do yoga, it can be done anywhere, and it has something to offer everyone. I am open to teaching yoga to various types of students, in customizable individual or group sessions. If you have always wanted to try yoga and are too afraid to jump into a public class setting, send me a message and we can set up a private yoga class/consultation!
